Mexitil (Mexiletine)
Cardio & BloodOn today’s knowledge it is wise for brothers and sisters and children, and parents if under the age of sixty to sixty-five, to seek a medical check-up. Their blood pressures will be measured, and tests will be made for high cholesterol and triglyceride levels and for diabetes. Whatever the outcome, it will offer some reassurance. Obviously so, if the tests are all normal. But the check-up will also be worth while if it leads to treatment of a serious and unsuspected risk factor for coronary heart disease. As the disorder mentioned may not be evident during childhood, the check-up should be repeated in early adult life.
In some families with a tendency to heart attack no high blood-pressure, cholesterol level or other recognized risk factor is found. Guidance for such families is limited, since we do not understand the basis for the tendency. It is prudent to minimize overall risk by attention to diet, avoidance of smoking and by adequate exercise; and it is reasonable, too, to follow simple dietary guidelines aimed at keeping blood-cholesterol levels low.*
