ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE: INCONTINENCE
A very common problem accompanying Alzheimer’s disease is urinary, and to a lesser extent faecal, incontinence. In most cases the person can be helped, and indeed made continent again. It is not one straightforward problem, though – there are many causes and as many treatments.
It is helpful to look at the problem as being either voluntary or involuntary; that is to say- the person either knows that they want to pass urine or faeces (and then doesn’t do it in the right place) or the person is unaware that they are incontinent.
