DELUSIONS
A delusion is a false belief having no foundation in fact. Usually it is incorrigible and fails to respond to any reasonable demonstration of its logical absurdity. A delusion is not consistent with the social and cultural background of its possessor. Most delusions are paranoid and many of these involve delusions of persecution. Most commonly doctors encounter delusions in relation to depressed people. This is not surprising as a depressive illness regularly generates hypochondriasis or delusions of ill health. Symptoms which a happy person ignores or shrugs off come to dominate the ruminations of depressed people. Every symptom becomes replete with sinister implications.
Home Remedies
Husbands and wives of people suffering from delusions as part of a mental illness, acquire non confrontational means of living with their spouses. They may say “You might believe that but I don’t”, as opposed to arguing the toss, which as a rule serves only to increase distress and not change the delusion one iota. Skills necessary to cope with a deluded relative can be acquired via mental health support groups such as The Association of Relatives And Friends of the Mentally III (ARAFMI).
